GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS

These are fresh news reports from local sources. They may be tentative, incomplete or premature. They are presented here to give you a chance to verify details and follow the story as it develops. 

CAMPGROUND RENEWALS, UPGRADES

Dateline Dublin, Virginia. When Clayton Lake State Park’s Campground B opens in April, 2026 it will have a new name and new  electric hookups at its 28 RV sites.  Potable water will be available. The new name will be Campground Birch. This campground will be closed for renovacations through 2025 but campgrounds A, C and D (now Alder, Cedar and Dogwood) will open on different dates this spring.           New owners are in place at the year-round Waldport/Newport KOA Journey overlooking Alsea Bay  in Waldport, Oregon.  Planned changes will include upgrading the clunhouse, cabins and camp store and improving parking for boats. I found a $96/night  rate in March for a 35-foot RV. (541) 563-2250

NEW AND SOON-TO-OPEN RV SITES

In Scott County, Mississippi two campgrounds at Roosevelt State Park have been renovated and will soon open for reservations. At R.O. Hannah campground  reservations open March 8.  Reservations for the CCC campground  open April 4. 

At Dover (Delaware) Speedway,  home of the World’s Fastest One-Mile Oval, 34 infield RV sites will be available with 50-amp power, water, sewer and Wi-Fi. Rates will include two two vehicle passes, a gift, two Garage Pit passes and more. Reserve online at 800-441-RACE.


RV-FRIENDLY EVENTS


The date of the LaGrange Classic Mountain Bike Race in Weaverville, California has been changed from June 14 to June 7. Be there for mountain bike riding and racing and a day of family activities, music, food, vendors and outdoor fun. Camping and RV parking will be available in Lowden Park and Trinity Alps RV Park, (www.) TrinityAlpsPark.com 

Maple Syrup festivals are a-boil in the  Buckeye State including the weekend of March 15-16 at Indian Lake State Park, Lakeview, Ohio. The park has more than 100 campsites, some with full hookups. Festival times are 8 a.m to 1 p.m. and cost for the pancake and sausage breakfast is $8 adults, $4 children. (937) 843-2717


Lakeview Park & Beach in Eunice, Louisiana will host the World Championship Crawfish Étouffée Cook-Off on March 29. The park offers RV campsites, full hookups,  fishing, watersports and a beach. The festival is a day of  music, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, pony rides, dancing and more for the whole family. Admission is free. ‘Even if you’re not looking for another pet just now, the Adopt-a-Thon to be held March 13 at Savannah Lakes RV Resort, Hardeeville, South Carolina will be  fun for the whole family. Pets from rescue missions will be there, looking for forever homes. Also on hand will be animal rescue experts to talk about their mission. Food trucks, vendors and a mobile vet truck will also be here. The resort has large, luxury RV sites, year-round activities, a K9 Korner, a hot tub, swimming pool and much more.  Tickets are on sale now for the annual Tennessee Motorcycles & Music Revival at Loretta Lynn’s dude ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Dates are May 15-18 for a roaring hot festival of motorcycles, nonstop music, rides, contests, races,  swap meets, seminars,  food and fellowship. The 3,500-scre ranch has three campgrounds, some with 30-amp power and a limited number with 50 amps. There’s unlimited room for dry camping. Water trucks and showers are available.

SCUTTLEBUTT


Good news for all KOA groupies and especially for RV-ers who seek medical care. Jetstream RV Resort at Med Center in Houston, Texas, is now  a KOA Journey. The 146-site park has first rate features such as a laundry, game room, dog park and heated swimming pool. The location is handy to the Texas Medical Center, NRG Stadium and downtown. 

There’s a good chance that Seawolf Park in Galveston, Texas will add 36 RV sites. RV’s already pay a parking fee to use the park as a day visitor. The overnight rate, if enacted, is expected to be $60. A wastewater facility to serve the new sites has yet to be added, so stay tuned.

Walnut Hill in the Florida Panhandle may get a 20-acre campground. Locals oppose it. Stay tuned 

Western Gateway Park in Nevada County, California will get a new RV park among other improvements . A target date hasn’t been announced. 

 

CAMPGROUND CLOSURES

KenLake State Resort  Park, Harden, Kentucky is closing its campground this year for a $9.3 million update. The campsites will have full, modern  hook-ups and the new bathhouse will be  2,000 square-feet.The campground will reopen for the 2026 season.
