Rainy Day
RV Fun
If you think rainy days were closed-in before you lived in an RV, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
You don't have room to swing a cat BUT you can have plenty of things planned for the unavoidable times when you are rained out , weathered in or just plain housebound.
. This is a good time to learn yoga, tai chi , chair exercise, resistance training or one of the other exercise disciplines that doesn’t involve thrashing about. Catch up on closet cleaning. Enroll in an online college course.
Of course, most resort and destination campgrounds have activities rooms. Some have extensive facilities such as a video arcade, bridge clubs, crafts room, fitness center, indoor basketball or swimming pool, and so on. However, women who can afford only government parks or bare-bones commercial parks won’t find much in the way of indoor public spaces.
Here are other ways to cope:
* Stash DVD’s, popcorn, unread books and other treats to bring out as surprises on shut-in days.
* When the weather channel tells you a rainy spell is coming, check into a luxury camping resort that has a clubhouse and planned activities. Do the laundry and catch up on ironing and mending.
* Spend a day in a local library. Many have computers, DVD viewing booths, crafts sessions, seminars and storytelling days or kids. Even though you don’t have a local library card that allows you to take out books, the library is a beehive of free fun. Many also have a sale table where discarded books are sold for a pittance.
* Learn a quiet, compact, indoor skill and make a family project out of turning it to a good cause. On rainy days, quilt or crochet lap robes for nursing homes. Stuff animals for children’s hospitals or make a scrapbook for a shut-in family member. Make a batch of cookies and take some to campground neighbors after the sun comes out.
* Start a blog or online family newsletter. Get an online pen pal in another country. Ideas to share? I'd love to publish them here. janetgroene@yahoo.com
* Instead of staying inside, embrace the gray days as people do in places where there’s a lot of rain such as the Pacific Northwest, Alaska or England. Don comfortable, breathable foul weather gear and boots and you won’t miss a day of the wildflower bloom or salmon run.
